This is the most-reviewed departure on the list by a wide margin, and it is the day most people who come to Cayo actually book. The reason is simple: the two things western Belize is known for are a Maya city on a ridge and a river running through limestone caves, and they are ninety minutes apart by road.
That ninety minutes is also the honest catch. Nine to eleven hours door to door is a long day, and roughly three of them are spent in a vehicle. Travellers who enjoy it say so emphatically; travellers who wanted the archaeology and got two hours of it say that too. The comparison guide sets both shapes of day out in full.
The tubing itself is gentle. You are issued a tube, a helmet and a life jacket, walk in along the river, and float back out through the cave. There is a 40-inch height minimum and you will be wet, so a complete change of clothes matters more than anything else you pack.

Who this suits, and who should book something else
This suits you if you have one full day in Cayo and want both of its headline experiences, you are comfortable with three hours of driving inside an eleven-hour day, and everyone in your party is over 40 inches tall.
Choose something else if the archaeology is the point. Two hours at the ruins is enough for the plaza and the climb and not much more — the three-hour half day gives you half as long again on the ridge and hands your afternoon back.

Pickup outside the town limits is excluded and carries a fee that varies by location; the listing names several outlying resorts specifically, and it does not collect from Belize City, Ambergris Caye, Hopkins or Placencia at all.

Know before you go
